Fort Smith Times Record
Fort Smith directors are in debate over whether they should be involved in the prices of taxicab rates within city limits.
The city s municipal code currently gives the Board of Directors authority to establish taxicab rates for cab services in the city. It also requires the driver to charge 50 cents for alternate routes.
On April 20, city directors will vote on whether to repeal the ordinances that oversee these cab rates in the city. The ordinance enforcing quotation of fare would be retained, while Ordinance 26-34, which enforces signs posting rates, zone maps and driver information, would be amended to allow metered rates in addition to the current map of zones that dictates cab rates.
