NEW ORLEANS Five people were sent to the hospital after a short, but wild police chase in New Orleans East Friday afternoon.
It all started around 2 p.m. near the intersection of Chef Highway and Downman Road. Levee District Police said an officer spotted a suspect allegedly involved in recent car burglaries and possible car-jackings at the Win-Dixie on Chef Highway.

JEFFERSON PARISH, La. Once a prominent attorney and deacon in the Catholic Church, Virgil Wheeler III, surrendered to Jefferson Parish authorities Monday, charged with sexual battery and indecent behavior with a juvenile. The alleged abuse reportedly happened in 2000 and 2001 when the victim was 10 or 11 years old.
“I think it’s a step in the right direction, that his victim or victims will receive justice,” said abuse survivor Kevin Bourgeois.

NEW ORLEANS Bob Arthur hasn’t been waiting passively for justice in the four years since his 40-year-old son, Shawn, turned up dead in his Metairie apartment.
Bob Arthur hired private investigators and worked with a Huffington Post reporter for more than a year to gather evidence that finally convinced the Jefferson Parish coroner and the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office that Shawn’s death wasn’t an accident.

She would normally be the center of attention during the Krewe of NYX parade, but now captain Julie Lea and the NYX organization are at the center of a 19-page lawsuit, alleging Lea controlled the Krewe of NYX for her personal benefit.
That lawsuit, filed on behalf of five former krewe members, claims Lea used her position of power as captain to live a lavish lifestyle at the expense of members. The lawsuit claims Lea pocketed dues and fees from members and accuses her of committing fraud, racketeering, breach of contract and unfair trade practices.
