Dan Fleser: Kellie Harper Sees Buzz Of Excitement Around Lady Vol Program Friday, May 7, 2021 - by Dan Fleser
Kellie Harper introduced two new assistant coaches this week and alluded to a different sort of feeling surrounding Tennessee women’s basketball. “There’s been a lot of buzz around the program, a lot of excitement,” said Harper, the Lady Vols head coach. If so, hiring Samantha Williams and Joy McCorvey constitutes the reason why. They reflect the biggest change since the season’s end. Heck, they represent the program’s biggest coaching transition since former Lady Vol Harper replaced another alum, Holly Warlick, as head coach in the spring of 2019. Williams and McCorvey are two-thirds of the coaching staff. Since the third member is Harper’s husband, Jon, the Lady Vols would be hard-pressed to make any more change.

Lady Vols sign Sun Belt player of year Dye as grad transfer
April 22, 2021 GMT
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) The Tennessee Lady Vols have signed Alexus Dye, the Sun Belt Conference player of the Year, as a graduate transfer.
Coach Kellie Harper announced the signing Thursday.
The 6-foot forward is graduating in May at Troy and has one season remaining thanks to the NCAA granting an additional year because of the coronavirus pandemic.
From Birmingham, Alabama, Dye averaged 16.6 points and 12.6 rebounds in 28 games for Troy. She led the nation with 23 double-doubles and ranked second with 352 total rebounds. She shot 49.5% from the floor and 73.7% at the free throw line.
Dan Fleser: 3 Special Things About Vol Sports Monday, April 19, 2021 - by Dan Fleser
Here are three things from a Tennessee sporting Saturday that caught my eye. Each one held my attention long enough to be thought-provoking:
Someone to cheer for: Evan Russell said the sound of Tennessee’s fans helped him when he strode to the plate. He thanked them in dramatic fashion.
The Vols’ left-fielder hit three homers against Vanderbilt. His eighth-inning grand slam capped an 8-4 comeback victory, which turned out to be UT’s lone victory of the series.
SEC Network analyst Chris Burke, a former Vol, pointed out on Twitter afterward that Russell didn’t start Friday night. He began Saturday with a batting average under .200 but finished as the lone Vol in program history with two 3-homer games.
