Article 93a of the Uniform Code of Military Justice criminalizes prohibited sexual relationships between recruiters or training instructors (such as drill sergeants) and “specially protected junior member[s] of the armed forces” such as applicants, delayed entry program members, or servicemembers still undergoing initial training.
Several instructors are suspended pending the results of the investigation.
A national online publication is reporting that 22 military members are being accused of sexually assaulting a trainee. We ve taken immediate action. With any member involved in this investigation, we ve removed them from their normal duties. They have been suspended, said Major General Kenneth Kamper.
The report from the Intercept cites a Fort Sill official with direct knowledge of the investigation.
The unnamed official told the Intercept, the female trainee made a formal report on March 27, 2021.
It says she identified seven of an alleged 22 members involved in assaulting her.
According to the official, the incidents at times involved groups of assailants.
