Govt making list of ‘fake’ freedom fighters: BNP

BNP today alleged that the government is making a list of fake freedom fighters, comprising of Awami League supporters and their relatives who did not take part in the Liberation War in 1971. Those who are now in power did not fight the Liberation War. They did not see how the Liberation War took place in the battlefield. That is why they want to snatch the title of real freedom fighters, said BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi at a human chain in front of the Jatiya Press Club today.
CCC election nothing but a ‘major farce’: BNP

BNP today alleged that the Chattogram City Corporation (CCC) election was marred by unprecedented vote robbery and violence while terming the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) KM Nurul Huda as a killer of democracy and fair elections . This election is nothing but a farce on an unimaginable level. Fair elections remain out of reach to people during this regime, said BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi while speaking to reporters.
BNP polling agents, mayoral and councilor candidates were driven out from most of the polling stations just after the voting began in the morning, Rizvi said.
CCC polls stirs up the political arena
At a polling centre in Shahid Nagar City Corporation Girls’ High School in the port city’s Lalkhan Bazar area, two youths appear to be inside a voting booth simultaneously, while another peeks from behind, around 11am. Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) faces an ‘imminent split’ as a faction of leaders is likely to quit the party for what they say lack of proper leadership in the absence of its Chairperson Khaleda Zia at the helm.
Tension is running high in the party after a few central leaders, led by a standing committee member and a vice-chairman, recently became active in rejuvenating the party keeping aside Khaleda Zia and incumbent acting Chairman Tarique Rahman.
It escalated after two BNP vice-chairmen were served show-cause notices for breaching the party discipline.
However, BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir denied any conflict in the party. “There’s no problem inside our party now,” he told the Daily Sun on Tuesday.
