Charlie Baker in March in response to rising COVID-19 cases. The board is asked to “provide the clinical or verifiable scientific evidence that an actual widespread emergency condition exists.’’ We the People of Sutton “The people of Sutton want this over with,’’ town resident Tammy Blakeslee said at the meeting Tuesday, Jan. 5. “We hope Sutton will be a leader in getting us out of this medical tyranny.’’ The letter was delivered Tuesday to town hall signed, “We the People of Sutton.’’ The board is asked to “provide the clinical or verifiable scientific evidence that an actual widespread emergency condition exists,’’ among other requests.

Thanks to federal support, the Sutton food service department of the Sutton schools has been providing thousands of free breakfasts and lunches to children and adults up to age 21, regardless of whether they attend school in Sutton. The weekly “grab and go’’ meals include seven breakfast meals, seven lunches, seven juices and seven fruit and vegetable servings, said Vivian Joubert, kitchen manager for the Sutton middle and high school. Families can pick up the meals Mondays from 4 to 6 p.m.

Sandy Quadros Bowles SUTTON A tentative fiscal year 2022 school budget that would increase by 5% over the current budget was presented Monday night, Jan. 4, by School Superintendent Theodore F. Friend to the Sutton School Committee. The total request of about $19.3 million is just over $900,000 higher than current spending. Salaries make up the bulk of the budget, at nearly $14,557,000, a hike of $524,000 from current salary spending. The increases reflect increases for teachers and administrators and the hiring of new positions. Those posts include one full-time adjustment counselor, 6.8 full-time equivalent instructional assistants, .5 full-time equivalent of a preschool teacher and one full-time equivalent of an IT support position.

Friend told the school committee Monday, Dec. 14, but the schools continue to feel the impact of the virus. “It’s hard to operate a school when you don’t have nurses in your building during a pandemic. Superintendent of Schools Theodore F.
