SWINDON Supermarine saw their Buildbase FA Trophy campaign come to a shuddering halt on Saturday after a 4-0 defeat by Bath City. The National League South outfit struggled to break Lee Spalding’s men down in a goalless first half before former Swindon Town man, Tom Smith struck twice after the break. Tommy Conway dispatched a penalty to put Bath three goals up, and Tom Richards added a fourth late on. Marine now have until at least January 9 without a game as the Southern League have joined the Northern League and the Isthmian League in opting to continue the suspension of all fixtures.

We were saddened to learn that Johnny Hannigan passed away on Friday 11 December, at the age of 87. John was a winger who came to Sunderland from Morton in 1955.
Earlier this season Sunderland scored eight goals against Aston Villa Under 21s. It was the first time the Lads had scored eight since Hannigan weighed in with a hat-trick against Charlton in an 8-1 win at Roker Park in September 1956. Strangely, on another occasion Johnny scored a hat-trick it came in a North Eastern League game at Annfield Plain for the reserves in a 7-2 win where Danny Brannigan scored four and the scoring went: Brannigan, Hannigan, Brannigan, Hannigan, Brannigan, Hannigan, Brannigan!

SWINDON Supermarine boss Lee Spalding believes his team is fully capable of causing an upset in the FA Trophy on Saturday when Marine travel to Bath City. Spalding’s men go into the third-round tie as underdogs against the National League South outfit, but the Supermarine boss has full confidence in his squad and is eyeing the chance to progress deep into the competition. Speaking to Your Sport Swindon, Spalding said: “It’s a big game, and one everyone is looking forward to. “Especially after last week, with the penalty shootout win, I’m sure all the boys are looking forward to this one, as are the fans and anyone else associated with the club.
