TOWN OF CAMPBEL, Wis. (WKBT)- Students at La Crosse’s Summit Elementary are being offered bottle water while the district waits for the results of its well test.
The City of La Crosse is testing some parts of French Island, where the school is located, for a dangerous compound called PFAS. Summit sits outside of that area, but so are other wells that have tested positive for PFAS.

LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) – Out with the old and in with the new.
That’s the discussion La Crosse School District board members had Monday night over Central High School’s mascot and nickname.
After years of conversations about cultural appropriation, Central will no longer be known as the “Red Raiders”.
The school is taking up a new identity as the “RiverHawks”.
The school’s colors and LC logo will remain the same.
Central’s principal, Troy McDonald, said Monday the school hopes to implement the new look for upcoming spring sports.
McDonald said he recognizes it’s hard to see the previous mascot go, especially for proud Red Raider alumni, but this change brings a bright future with it.

Silence existed in this building for what Longfellow Middle School principal Matt Kitzerow said was too long.
“We haven’t had students in our building since March 17, 2020,” Kitzerow said. I think it’s like 321 school days or something. We counted. It’s gonna feel surreal.”
Kitzerow circled Feb. 1st. It’s the day students return to Longfellow.
“Lots of preparation that really has been going on since last summer,” Kitzerow said.
