The Polish Canadian Club in Chatham has been gutted by a fire that began Wednesday morning in a vacant building next door on Inshes Avenue.
Almost 50 firefighters from three stations battled the blaze that quickly spread from the vacant building to the club. They were also trying to stop the flames from reaching any other nearby businesses.

No injuries were reported.
The fire’s cause is under investigation, and the Office of the Fire Marshal has been called.

Anyone age 12 and older with select medical conditions in Windsor-Essex can now receive a COVID-19 vaccine.
The local health unit expanded eligibility for the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine Tuesday morning to allow those who are at least 12 years old at the time of their appointment to receive a jab if they have a health condition diabetes, cancer, and autoimmune disorders, among others that puts them at risk of more severe complications should they contract COVID-19.

Hundreds of Reliance Home Comfort employees, including seven in Chatham, are locked out because of a contract dispute between their union and the company.
Workers walked the picket line Friday at Reliance’s location on Riverview Drive.

“We’re locked out,” Chatham strike captain Jeff Cavanagh said. “Willing and ready to get back to work.”
Unifor Local 1999, which represents 830 employees, and Reliance reached a tentative agreement on a new contract in March but that deal was rejected by membership. The previous contract expired March 31.

On Thursday, residents who’ll be at least 40 years old this year can start booking appointments at 8 a.m.
Time slots can be reserved at the Bradley Centre mass vaccination clinic in Chatham, at the Wallaceburg Memorial Arena mobile clinic on May 21 and at the Gincor Trailer Werx drive-thru clinic in Blenheim on May 30.
