The epic trading battle over GameStop has been a boon to AMC Theatres, spurred new film deals and impressed Big Short director Adam McKay: It’s hard not to love what that Reddit group is doing.
It has all the hallmarks of a Hollywood revenge thriller. A group of regular Joe day traders coordinates to upend the stock market through chats on Reddit and TikTok, boost the share price of companies struggling amid the pandemic and cause hedge funds to lose billions largely through an investment site aptly named Robinhood.
That’s what happened in late January when some members of a Reddit forum called r/wallstreetbets noticed that hedge funds had taken short positions on GameStop, AMC Entertainment and other companies. Noah Centineo is reportedly getting in on the GameStop action. Netflix is in talks to make an untitled film about the stock market drama, and the 24-year-old actor is attached to star, according to multiple reports.

Deadline reported on Monday. Journalist Scott Galloway is in talks to consult on the script. Makeready founder and CEO Brad Weston will produce the film alongside Definition Entertainment s Nick Styne, with Mark Sourian as executive producer.

HOLLYWOOD Who remembers that cultural juggernaut, the Oscar-nominated film “Black Panther?” The film written and directed by Ryan Coogler, it featured a black cast, and fronted by the late Chadwick Boseman. So many hit films turned to TV shows. The fictional African kingdom is set to inspire a new Disney series based on the wildly successful Marvel film “Black Panther,” which was released in 2018. Disney has confirmed Ryan Coogler will also lead the forthcoming series as part of a five-year deal to flesh out the universe for its Disney subscription state.
When, Disney acquired the rights to “Star Wars” from original creator George Lucas in 2012, they promised to expand the universe. As the first live-action television series in the “Star Wars” franchise, “The Mandalorian” begins five years after Luke Skywalker’s heroics against “The Empire” in the original trilogy’s “Return of the Jedi” in 1983.
