Ludhiana: After almost a year, the Ludhiana Police will resume its anti-encroachment drive on Monday. The intensified campaign will cover 100 roads of the city.
Earlier, in 2020, the police had started the drive at a couple of spots, mainly in Old City. It was discontinued due to the lockdown to check Covid-19 spread.
Commissioner of police Rakesh Agrawal said, “The previous year, the drive had started in January. It was a success and residents had appreciated it. The police had lodged 100 cases against the violators. This time, the drive will be intensified and cover more areas.”
The police have identified 100 roads that will be their focus areas. “Our target is to rid 100 roads of encroachments within a month. In the first 15 days, the police will request shopkeepers and street vendors to remove encroachments on their own. Notices will also be served on them. In the next 15 days, the police will help the municipal corporation remove the remaining encroachments,” he adde

Ludhiana: Two men on a bike snatched a purse from a woman in the busy Ghumar Mandi market on Saturday night.
Radhika Chauthani, 40, a resident of Deep Nagar, Civil Lines, said in her police complaint, “I was walking in the market when two men on a bike snatched my purse. I tried to chase them, but they sped away. The purse contained Rs 30,000, debit cards, my cellphone, house key and important ID proofs and documents.”
Radhika borrowed a phone from a passerby and called up the police.
Ghumar Mandi police post in-charge sub-inspector Jaswinder Singh said, “We have scanned the footage of CCTVs installed in the market. The accused have been captured fleeing towards Aarti Chowk. As it was night, the footage is not clear. More CCTVs are being scanned to trace them. We are recording the statement of the woman to lodge an FIR.”

Ludhiana: Sunday became a perfect day for many families of the city to spend some quality time while participating in health and fitness activities organised by various NGOs and fitness institutes. As people did not get much time to move out in the past few months due to Covid-19, so, on Sunday, they gathered at the Sidhwan canal water front and enjoyed various fun activities.
Activities like zumba dance, bhangra, cycling, jogging, drawing competition among many others were organised for the people. These activities continued for almost three hours.
