Westport Playhouse Story Hour with Jenny on June 6 Written by Pat Blaufuss Westport Country Playhouse’s “Story Hour with Jenny,” a live, in-person series to engage children, grades K-3, will present an in-person, interactive reading of the picture book, “Lubaya’s Quiet Roar,” on Sunday, June 6, at 11 a.m., on the Playhouse campus.   Written by Newbery Honor winner Marilyn Nelson, with paintings by Philomena Williamson, ©2020, “Lubaya’s Quiet Roar” is a lyrical, impactful story that tells how every child, even the quietest, can make a difference in their community and world. Jenny Nelson, who is the Roz and Bud Siegel director of education and community engagement at the Playhouse, will lead the one-hour session.

Westport Country Playhouse Presents “Cabaret in the Robards” Written by Pat Blaufuss Next Westport, CT - Westport Country Playhouse will present “Cabaret in the Robards”, a series of live, in-person, on-stage performances headlined by Broadway musical talents, beginning in June. The three-show series will benefit the safe reopening of the Playhouse campus, closed since March 2020 due to the global pandemic.   “Cabaret in the Robards” will include “An Evening with Brad Simmons and Tonya Pinkins,” on Saturday June 26, at 8 p.m.; “An Evening with Larry Owens,” on Saturday, July 17, at 8 p.m.; and “An Evening with Ali Stroker,” on Saturday July 24, at 8 p.m. The Robards, officially known as The Jason Robards Theatre at Westport Country Playhouse, was named in memory of the actor, who, along with his wife Lois, supported the historic theater’s 2005 major renovation.

Westport Playhouse Virtual Production of Tiny House Opens June 29 Written by Pat Blaufuss Westport, CT - Westport Country Playhouse will open its all-virtual 2021 production season with the regional premiere of “Tiny House,” a timely new comedy about downsizing, going green, escaping urban life, and fresh starts, written by Michael Gotch, and directed by Mark Lamos, Playhouse artistic director. The production will stream on demand from Tuesday, June 29 through Sunday, July 18.  Exactly 90 years ago on June 29, 1931, the Playhouse staged the first production in its history of over 800 plays. In “Tiny House,” fireworks fly when family, friends, and quirky neighbors come together for a Fourth of July barbecue at the off-the-grid, isolated mountain paradise of a young, urban couple.
