Imagine a herd of giraffes, a herd of elephants and a pride of lions in a jungle, all of whom need to choose their respective group leaders by putting the candidates through a test.
Sanity would suggest holding group-specific tests devised with relevant criteria for each herd or pride. But if the same rubber-stamp test with similar contents was used for all the groups, wouldn’t this defy logic? It certainly would.
The same absurdity is part of the bureaucratic system of Pakistan. Based on the Annual Confidential Report (ACR), every government official is assessed for their performance and given a promotion.
Govt Completes Pakistan Pavilion Building for Expo 2020 Dubai
The construction of the Pakistan Pavilion’s building for Expo 2020 Dubai has been completed and handed over to the Government of Pakistan, Adviser to Prime Minister for Commerce and Investment, Abdul Razak Dawood, announced through his Twitter account on Wednesday.
The building was handed over in a ceremony, which was attended by the Secretary of Ministry of Commerce, M. Suelah, he wrote.

SMEDA to set up digital platforms

LAHORE: The Small and Medium Enterprises Development Authority (SMEDA) is going to implement the government-recommended e-commerce regulatory framework to incentivise the establishment of digital platforms for facilitating SMEs in accessing online markets, both at local and international levels.
Addressing a joint meeting of SMEDA and the Trade Development Authority of Pakistan (TDAP) officials, SMEDA CEO Hashim Raza briefed the TDAP team about SMEDA’s current initiatives and regular activities for the facilitation of SMEs and assured to share a proposal for the development of e-Commerce sector in Pakistan.
The TDAP and SMEDA should together work to fill the marketing gap created due to the coronavirus pandemic for Pakistani exports, and suggested arranging online platforms for SMEs dealing in exports.
TDAP urged to apply for GI tag

KARACHI: The Union of Small and Medium Enterprises (UNISAME) has urged Trade Development Authority of Pakistan (TDAP) Secretary Ahsan Mangi to apply for geographical indications (GI) tag for GI items expeditiously as the law and corresponding act is now promulgated, a statement said on Monday.
Haji Muhammad Saeed, chairman of SME Farmers Association (SMEFA) has also urged the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Authority to take the SME farmers in their fold and advocate their cause for uplift of the farm sector and modernisation of farms.
He also urged TDAP to give importance to the matter of GI registration of farm produce and food items, which are known for their GI popularity and exclusiveness and outstanding features and characteristics.
