2 hospitalized after Andrew County head-on crash

ANDREW COUNTY Two people were injured in an accident just after 6:30a.m. Tuesday in Andrew County. The Missouri State Highway Patrol reported a 2018 Chevy Impala driven by Wesley G. Parker, 37, St. Joseph, was northbound on Route CC at County Road 518 five miles west of Savannah. The car crossed the center line and struck a 2017 Ford Edge driven by  Jennifer L. Eiman, 38, Savannah head-on. After the crash, the Ford traveled off the west side of the road and struck a bench on private property. Andrew County EMS transported Parker to Mosaic Life Care and later to KU Medical Center.  A private vehicle transported Eiman to Mosaic Life Care. Parker was not wearing a seat belt, according to the MSHP.

KU announces new 2021-2022 Self Memorial Scholars | The University of Kansas

Fri, 05/21/2021 LAWRENCE – Twenty students have been selected to receive the University of Kansas Madison and Lila Self Memorial Scholarship for the 2021-2022 academic year. The Self Memorial Scholarship is a merit-based scholarship that is awarded to outstanding undergraduate students from KU who will transition into a full-time master’s or doctoral degree program at KU in the fall semester. Students who were selected demonstrated achievement in leadership and scholarship, and they possess the ability to envision and attain goals that require energy and tenacity. The Self Memorial Scholarship provides each recipient with a $10,000 scholarship award applied to tuition and fees, leadership and career development training, and an interdisciplinary cohort of graduate students. The leadership and career development training, called the Scholar Development Program, complements the specialized education and training provided by the graduate programs.

Victim of fiery car crash in St Joseph has died, according to police

St. Joseph Police say the victim of a fiery car crash on Monday afternoon has died.   The crash occurred at 14th and Mason streets around 3:40 p.m. Monday. The victim has not yet been identified. She’s been described as a woman in her 30s. The victim’s car was hit from behind and burst into flames. When the car was hit, it got pushed into traffic and hit again nearly head-on. The victim was flown from Mosaic Life Care to KU Medical Center to be treated for burns.  The investigation is ongoing. The prosecutor’s office is considering charges. 

David Slusky to deliver Shutz Lecture

Slusky, the De-Min and Chin-Sha Wu Associate Professor of Economics in the College of Arts & Sciences at the University of Kansas, will deliver the annual Shutz Lecture at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 12. Individuals can register to attend the Zoom webinar here. His presentation is titled “Adventures with a Natural Experiment Hunter: Teaching Economics Research.” The lecture will be recorded for those unable to attend the virtual event and posted to the Faculty Development website.

1 dead, 1 hospitalized after wrong-way Kan crash

May 5, 2021 BROWN COUNTY One person died in an accident just before 9a.m. Wednesday in Brown County. The Kansas Highway Patrol reported a 2002 Buick Century driven by Martin Charles Richbourg, 22, Falls City, Nebraska, was  northbound on Horned Owl Road six miles east of Morrill. A 2007 Acura MDX driven by Tad Jeremy Alfrey, 40, Seneca was southbound and both vehicles approached a curve at the same time. Alfrey swerved to avoid the Buick traveling northbound in the southbound lane. Both vehicles swerved and collided in the northbound lanes. A passenger in the Buick identified as Andrew S Vaughan, 36, Falls City, Nebraska, was pronounced dead at the scene.
