WILMINGTON It is with a heavy heart to say that Brenda Lea Bland, 46, passed away at 10:05 p.m., Tuesday, July 13, at Lower Cape Fear Hospice Center. She had been battling stage 3 rectal cancer since Nov. 8, 2019. On Jan. 6, 2021, the news was given that the cancer had metastasized and was deemed terminal.
To say that Brenda was the life of the party is an understatement. She could always make people laugh so hard their sides hurt. She always was able to provide a safe place for anyone to come and get what they were searching for, whether it be a venting session, a distraction from the world, or just a safe place to hang out at. She was a sweet woman with a heart of gold. She would give anyone the shirt off of her back without hesitation. To say that the world will not be the same without her doesn’t begin to cover it. OAK ISLAND Ray Eugene Fulbright, 88, peacefully passed away Wednesday, July 21, 2021.
Ray was born Nov. 3, 1932, in Granite Falls, the second child born to Anne Maie and Jace Fulbright. After growing up in Granite Falls and graduating high school, Ray met and fell in love with Margaret Irene Jolley. They married July 29, 1952, then Ray entered the U.S. Navy and served six years. Upon discharge from the U.S. Navy, Ray enlisted in the U.S. Air Force, serving for another 18 years and was stationed in areas across the world.
During this time of service, Ray and “Rene” welcomed Ray Eugene “Chip” Fulbright Jr. and Sandra Lee Fulbright into their family. Ray was discharged honorably from service in 1974 and settled in Gastonia. There, Ray joined the sheriff’s department, working as a deputy until retirement in 1990. WILMINGTON Daniel “Dan” Geddie, 69, died Monday, July 19, 2021, at Lower Cape Fear LifeCare after a lengthy illness. He was born Oct. 26, 1951, in Kinston, the son of the late John McPhail (Mac) Geddie and Audrey Flake Geddie.
Dan is survived by his wife of 47 years, Beth King Geddie. He is also survived by his daughters, Amy Geddie (Shawn Hernandez) of Rockville, Md., and Melissa Geddie (Mike Kagey) of Arlington, Mass.; as well as grandsons, Nathan and Sam Kagey. Additionally, he is survived by his brother, John Geddie (Jessiebeth); brother-in-law, Billy King (Elizabeth); niece, Elizabeth Beard; and nephew, Hugh Geddie.
