Most of us have loved and lost special people in our lives and we understand that coping with grief is a challenging process. If you or your friends and family are having difficulty dealing with the loss of a loved one, Lower Cape Fear LifeCare (formerly Lower Cape Fear Hospice) is here to help. Throughout the year, we offer compassionate care, educational and enrichment opportunities that support many types of loss in safe and familiar environments. Because of our generous donors, these caring, no cost groups, camps and workshops are available to all. Your donation is always appreciated.
Gale Ganey Morgan
LELAND Gale Ganey Morgan, 78, passed away peacefully in her sleep Monday, Feb. 1, 2021, at Lower Cape Fear Hospice after a recent series of medical setbacks following a hip replacement.
Originally from Leland, she resided in Wilmington and Kernersville before returning to Leland, where she eventually retired from Almont Shipping. Family and faith were the core of her being; her love of both formed the guiding principles of her life. She served as well as volunteered in various positions and committees at Sunset Park Baptist Church, Wilmington, and Edgewood Baptist Church, Winston-Salem.
An outgoing personality, Gale loved nothing more than spending time and laughing with family and friends. Gale’s mind was always inquisitive and curious about the world around her. This curiosity manifested itself in a love of travel throughout the United States with her husband, Cam. Gale was an avid reader, gardener, amateur chef and always wanted to try something new.
Someone who lost, or is losing, a friend or family member may need space for solace and reflection any time of year. That was one of the challenges that Lower Cape Fear LifeCare faced when they began designing onsite gardens in New Hanover and Brunswick counties.
The organization, formerly known as Lower Cape Fear Hospice, started the process in 2008 with the help of Sheri Chisholm, owner of Flora Landscapes.
Now the gardens, located at 1406 Physicians Dr. in Wilmington and 955 Mercy Lane in Bolivia, serve multiple functions.
They are peaceful and meditative. They are a place to bring friends and family members to honor loved ones. And they provide opportunities for fund-raising to help care for future patients.
