It Seems My New Summer Tradition In Hampden Is Saving Baby Birds
Last summer, almost exactly a year ago, I went out into the driveway for some reason, and noticed a little dirt mound on the ground. I was literally about to kick it across the driveway, and I realized some it was moving. Upon closer inspection, I saw it was two little phoebe chicks.
I scooped them up into a box with a heating pad, and zipped them down to
Avian Haven, a bird rehabber in Freedom. They were in decent shape, and expected to make a full recovery, though I never knew for sure. So yesterday when I happened upon another bird s nest, in the exact same spot as last year, I knew exactly what to do.
Old Town and Lewiston House Fires Displace 9 Adults & 13 Children
No one was hurt in fires in Old Town and Auburn, over the weekend, that left 22 people without homes.
The Auburn fire was reported just before 1:00 Saturday morning at an apartment house at 248 Turner Street. Fire officials told WGME-TV that all 18 residents, including 8 adults and 10 children, were able to get out before crews arrived. It only took about 15 minutes to knock down the fire, but officials say the building is likely a total loss. The Red Cross worked to find accommodations for the tenants.
In Old Town, crews responded to a report of a house fire on Spring Street just before 10:00 Sunday morning. WABI-TV reports the family was home, when the fire broke out, but were able to make it out safely. A gofundme page has been set up for the tenant and her 3 children, and the Red Cross is assisting them, as well.
Sweet Kitty Needs A Special Home [103 GBF Kitty of the Week]
Our friends at Posey Humane Society have described this week s adoptable kitty as super sweet and say she loves attention. She is absolutely beautiful - just look at those big green eyes and the adorable smudge on her nose! PHS says Blackie is about a year and a half old.
While she is breathtakingly beautiful, she will need to be an only cat. Blackie is FIV positive. If you re unfamiliar Feline Immunodeficiency Virus or FIV, is only contagious among cats. FIV does not require any special treatment and does not impact Blackie s life expectancy at all. She will live to be a sweet senior lady. Posey Humane Society has said that while she is not a fan of dogs, she does love people very much and will make an excellent companion.
Roxie is believed to be about 5 years old and she weighs in at 70 pounds. She is a beautiful girl just waiting for the right forever family. Here s what PC Pound Puppies have to say about Roxie:
Roxie recently came to our shelter as a stray and she is now available for foster or adoption. She is a very beautiful, friendly girl. We will be temp testing her this weekend but for now, we are suggesting she needs to meet any potential furry housemates first. She did come in with a male gsd so we know she is fine with some dogs. We are just not sure about others for now. We have a two week foster to adopt trial program where we can loan you a crate, leash and collar during that time. We do background checks on all adoptions so honesty up front will save us time in the process.
Tank, a very handsome and charming 6 1/2 year old dog from Henderson, KY, loves the snow so much, he’s playing keep away with the snow shovel so he can find a place to bury it.
