Nehawu in Eastern Cape welcomes Gomba’s axing Updated

The National Education, Health and Allied Workers Union (Nehawu) in the Eastern Cape has welcomed the axing of the province’s Health MEC Sindiswa Gomba.

Gomba has been axed by Premier Lubabalo Mabuyane after the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) charged her with graft relating to former president Nelson Mandela’s funeral.
Nehawu s Secretary Miki Jaceni said the labour union has always said the department must be run by some who is focused.
It needs somebody who can focus, somebody who has requisite understanding in terms of the qualification, in terms of the skills and everything else.

The messenger of Eastern Cape Rural Development and Agrarian Reform MEC Nomakhosazana Meth has been arrested for drunk driving.

ld Nelita Diko spent the night in police cells earlier this month.
She was driving a state vehicle at the time of her arrest and the department she worked for is investigating the incident.
The messenger of Eastern Cape Rural Development and Agrarian Reform MEC Nomakhosazana Meth, has been arrested for allegedly driving a state vehicle while under the influence of alcohol.
According to Eastern Cape police, Nelita Diko crashed into a truck on the night of 4 February 2021 on the N2 between Butterworth and East London. Police took her for blood tests.

Sindiswa Gomba. Picture: Twitter/@healthmec The suspects, accused of defrauding the city during Nelson Mandela’s funeral arrangements, were granted R1000 bail each and will appear again in court on 5 March 2021.
On Friday, the Hawks announced the arrest of Buffalo City officials, prominent political party members, businessmen and entities who defrauded the municipality a sum of up to R10 million in the procurement of transportation and booking of venues during Mandela’s memorial service and funeral preparations.
All accused appeared in the East London Magistrate’s Court on charges of fraud, money laundering, corruption and contravention of the Municipal Finance Management Act (MFMA).
