Keep My Hood Good installing first of many murals by Black artists

Residents in the predominately Black East Jackson community have driven and walked by abandoned buildings daily, either not quite realizing what could be or envisioning something without a way to make it reality. One of the most visible, passed-by buildings is the former storefront that sits across the street from the newly renovated Lincoln Elementary. Though the building has been abandoned for several years, that empty wall facing Lincoln will be unveiled Saturday as a mural with vibrant colors and shapes filling up the space of a charcoal backdrop.   The now colorful mural sends a message: “We’re trying to keep our hood good,” said Brian James, board member of the organization that’s doing the project.
