A 110-year-old former church has become part of the Malaghans Road landscape, between Queenstown and Arrowtown.
The building was bought from the Waikaka Presbyterian Church parish, in Eastern Southland, by Malaghans Investments Ltd owner Brett Giddens.
Giddens has Queenstown council approval to convert the building into office space for his Town Planning Group business.
The church was trucked 170km from Waikaka in March to its new site near Coronet Peak Station Rd, and will be restored and adapted to its new use over winter.
The 160 square metre building’s 6.9m to the top of the roof, with finials to about 8.5m, and features a bell tower.

South Island ploughmen Ian Woolley and Bob Mehrtens are set to represent the nation in Russia after winning their classes at the 66th New Zealand Ploughing Championships in Eastern Southland on the weekend.
Over two days, about 40 competitors ploughed plots on Mark and Sonia Dillon s sheep, beef and cropping farm in Riversdale.
Ian Woolley, of Blenheim, won the Silver Plough and the conventional class and Bob Mehrtens, of Timaru, won the reversible class.
New Zealand Ploughing Association president James Burnby, of Clinton, said both ploughmen would represent New Zealand in Russia next year.
In his first year out of school Withy played for Otago in the National Provincial Championship. First five-eighth Cameron Millar was another Southland product to star in the Highlanders under-20 victory over the Barbarians. Millar kicked 10 from 10 converting all of the Highlanders’ 10 tries and also impressed with ball in hand. Millar initially made his mark playing in Eastern Southland where he led Gore High School to win Southland’s under-18 competition in 2019. Last year he linked with Otago Boys’ where Millar yet again impressed and now is playing club rugby in Dunedin. Southland’s connection in the Highlanders-Barbarians under 20 game didn’t end there.
