Loved ones are remembering a 16-year-old Lafayette girl who was killed over the weekend.
Ja Nya Hebert was shot while sitting in a vehicle on Harrington Drive on Sunday, July 11. Police say she was found in the street with a gunshot wound to the back.
The event was held on East Clinton Street in Lafayette, and those in attendance wore Ja Nya s favorite colors, purple and white.
KATC spoke with Ja Nya s family earlier this week, who said they are finding comfort in watching her dance videos. Her mother said the past week has been tough, but she s slowly healing.

JOHNSTOWN The city may do away with fees charged to city residents for holding garage sales in their own yards, after May 17.
The Common Council will consider a resolution that night to get rid of the $2.50 fee currently charged by the City Clerk’s Office to conduct a garage sale at their home. Residents would still have to get a garage sale permit, but it would be free.
“We weren’t collecting a ton of money,” City Clerk Carrie Allen said Thursday.
She said the original idea for a fee was to prevent people from holding yearlong garage sales.

Contracts for the East Clinton Street reconstruction project in the City of Howell have been approved.
Design engineering for the East Clinton and North National resurfacing project was approved by Council in September of 2019. Itâs being funded largely through a grant and low-interest state loan. At Monday night s virtual meeting, Council approved two motions related to the project. The first was to approve a contract with the Michigan Department of Transportation, as the grant portion of the project is federally funded through M-DOT. Six bids were received and the low bid of $3.9 (m) million was awarded to C&D Hughes of Lansing, which has done work for the City in the past. A separate resolution was approved to tentatively award a contract for water system improvements, which are being funded through the stateâs Drinking Water Revolving Loan Fund program.
