Epic. Unforgettable. The stuff of legends.
The last time I watched a football game this good in Glenwood, the field was not named after Nick Stubler. That’s because he was my PE teacher at Glenwood Springs High School and one of the assistant coaches on the football team at the time.
It was a chilly November Friday evening in the fall of 1978 and the undefeated Demons were taking dead aim at those undefeated Roaring Fork Rams from up the road in Carbondale. Leading up to the game, the Glenwood Post ran a two-page story on the contest that would decide the Northwestern League championship, titled “Hold onto Your Hats. It’s Demons vs Rams.”
A lawsuit filed by a former Glenwood Springs High School student and her family against the local school district and a GSHS administrator/coach is headed for a settlement.
In the lawsuit filed in U.S. District Court in Denver in January 2020 Jane Doe vs. Roaring Fork School District and Patrick Engle the family alleged district and school officials mishandled a student harassment case involving their daughter and other students in the fall of 2017.
Plaintiffs said their daughter was subjected to ongoing harassment stemming from a sexual assault incident in which she was victimized by a male student in October 2016. The male student was a junior at the time, and the female a sophomore.
Staff report
The Aspen Art Museum is producing new student exhibitions through its new Teen Curators program this spring at Glenwood Springs High School and the Rifle Branch Library.
They are curated by Annika Bucchin of Glenwood High and Lily McCann-Klausz of Rifle High.
The shows result from the annual program formerly known as Young Curators of the Roaring Fork, which had been running since 2005, downsized for 2020-21 to two teen curators. It follows the museum’s expansive inaugural Youth Art Expo, which opened in March and showed local student art in the main galleries at the museum for the first time since the new downtown building opened in 2014. The museum also has established a Teen Council and Teen Artists program that, along with the Teen Curators, forms a new Teen Art Corps initiative for the institution.
