(WWNY) - In Waddington, they’re building on the past. Proponents say the historic preservation projects are giving the river town a brighter future. Restorations and renovations are taking place all over town. The Clark House is raising funds for a historically authentic ceiling and the Waddington First Presbyterian Church is getting crucial renovations. “People that now live here see that Waddington can be brought back. And I believe that’s why all of these projects are taking place,” said Robert Smith, First Presbyterian building manager.

Musante Health Center will be improved and new outdoor gathering spots on Boltwood Walk are being created using money received from the state. A $192,600 grant from the Department of Transportation’s Winter Shared Streets and Spaces Program is funding the projects around the Bangs Community Center, which houses the Amherst Senior Center and the Boltwood parking garage. Town Manager Paul Bockelman said Tuesday that plans in development for several years by the Planning Department would create a new ramp and walkway system, compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act, that will bring those who park on the ground level of the parking garage to the health center, on the lower level of the Bangs.

The Martha s Vineyard Times State financing comes through for Perlman House Now the final piece has come through, $1.2 million in anticipated financing from MassHousing for the seven-unit housing development in Vineyard Haven that includes a mix of affordable and workforce rental units. IHT transformed the former Clark House, located at 20 Edgartown–Vineyard Haven Road, into the apartments, and named the building after the previous owners. “With a significant need for affordable housing for year-round residents on Martha’s Vineyard, we are very pleased to be a partner in this effort to develop seven new rental homes for moderate-income families on the Island,” MassHousing executive director Chrystal Kornegay said. “We commend Island Housing Trust for its commitment to providing housing and economic opportunities on the Vineyard, and congratulate them on completing this important project.”
