At 4 pm on Sunday, May 2, Zaleski, joined by bassist Desmond White and drummer Allan Mednard, will take the stage in the Wellspring Theatre for a livestreamed concert on the Rising Stars Series, presented by The Gilmore. He spoke with Cara Lieurance for a preview.

It would be difficult to get more Kalamazoo than Irving Gilmore. His father, James F. Gilmore founded the Gilmore Brothers Department Store. Gilmore Brothers was open in Kalamazoo for over a century before closing in 1999. After the senior Gilmore died in 1908, his mother, Carrie Sherwood Gilmore married W.E. Upjohn, the founder of Upjohn Pharmaceuticals. Irving Gilmore founded the Gilmore Keyboard Festival. Western Michigan University has the Irving S. Gilmore Theatre. You do not get more Kalamazoo than the Gilmores and the Upjohns.

KALAMAZOO, MI A homegrown guitar legacy dating back to the turn of the 20th century will be entering a new chapter in the coming years.
This week, Hard Rock Hotels announced plans for a new hotel at the 225 Parsons St., Kalamazoo, location the longtime home of Gibson and, later, Heritage Guitars.
Plans for the newest addition to Hard Rock’s REVERB brand, call for business casual concept hotel designed to be an “energetic cultural hub for connection, creation and inspiration among music fans, locals, and travelers alike,” according to a news release from the company.
