KILLEEN, TX â Teachers change the lives of millions of students every day. Their impact reaching beyond the classroom and after a year like 2020, this National Teachers Appreciation Week means more than before.
Throughout the week-long celebration, we will be highlighting teachers across Central Texas. Today s winner from Killeen ISD is Angela Thomas a teacher at Trimmer Elementary.
4400 Success Dr. is where you can find Trimmer Elementary. Itâs also where Angela Thomas has been for the past 18 years. Today, she got a surprise she wasnât quite expecting.
Debbie Nash-King was the top vote-getter with 572 votes.
In an upset, candidate Michael Boyd beat incumbent Steve Harris by two votes â 181 to 179 â to represent District 4. Harris was looking for his third consecutive term in District 4, and his fourth overall. Harris said he believes there were voting issues at several polling places and will file for a recount.
âIâm very surprised,â Harris said in council chambers following the results. âItâs disappointing, but God is still good. We will see what happens after the recount.â
Harris was the lone dissenting vote at a council meeting Tuesday to ban no-knock warrants by the Killeen Police Department. Harris said he wanted to see the people vote on the issue, and not have the council make the decision for the city.
