WINDSOR, ONT. The holidays may be a little different this year, but that isn’t stopping some people from spreading holiday cheer from their doorsteps. “I wanted to do something for my town Harrogate, for the children because they had a really tough year. I thought of bells and ringing bells at 6 p.m. for two minutes,” says Mary Beggs-Reid, organizer of the Worldwide Christmas Eve Jingle. What started off as a simple idea, has gone global. “It’s for the children so when they’re older they can look back and say 2020 was a tough year, but on Christmas Eve something really magical happened,” says Beggs-Reid.

Neighbours set to ring bells at 6pm TODAY to combat loneliness on Christmas Eve

Caroline Stout, from Rodbourne, has encouraged people to join the Christmas Eve Jingle event at 6pm today.   The nationwide campaign is the brainchild of Mary Beggs-Reid, from Harrogate, North Yorkshire.   Caroline told the Adver: “When I first saw the event on Facebook, I just joined as I thought it would be something lovely for us to do with our six-year-old Scarlet ringing some bells outside our front door.   “Word got around, especially with the neighbours in our street – we have all become very close during lockdown.   “I know a lot of other families in Rodbourne, so I did another event on Facebook to make sure everyone knew about it.”
