KICKAPOO TWP, Ill. If the year 2020 has been The Grinch in time form, the Fargo Ridge section of Edwards is set to become the real-life version of Whoville.
The 20-house neighborhood will participate in the
Worldwide Christmas Eve Jingle 2020, a Facebook event that was originally created for a small English neighborhood but went viral and, as of Thursday, had close to 500,000 worldwide attendees.
“My wife had seen the posts saying at 6 P.M. on Christmas Eve, it would be really great if the entire world rang bells,” said local organizer Brian Rezac.
“We decided to kind of take that idea and run with it on our street. My sister actually went to Hobby Lobby and picked up some jingle bells and some ribbon and stuff, and we made these cards with some very basic instructions.”
WINDSOR, ONT. The holidays may be a little different this year, but that isn’t stopping some people from spreading holiday cheer from their doorsteps. “I wanted to do something for my town Harrogate, for the children because they had a really tough year. I thought of bells and ringing bells at 6 p.m. for two minutes,” says Mary Beggs-Reid, organizer of the Worldwide Christmas Eve Jingle. What started off as a simple idea, has gone global. “It’s for the children so when they’re older they can look back and say 2020 was a tough year, but on Christmas Eve something really magical happened,” says Beggs-Reid.

Families across Newark and Sherwood are being encouraged to take part in a mass bell-ringing on Christmas Eve as part of a campaign to spread festive cheer.
The Worldwide Christmas Eve Jingle is inviting families and communities to gather on their doorsteps and ring bells for two minutes at 6pm tomorrow (Thursday).
The campaign was launched by a mum in North Yorkshire in a bid to tackle loneliness and promote hope after a difficult year for many.
