PLANS ARE well underway for Christchurch’s festive Living Advent Calendar event in December 2021 – an event which had to be postponed from last year owing to the Covid-19 pandemic. The Rotary Club of Christchurch have been busy organising this year’s free event which celebrates the advent season as well as raising money for local charities. The occasion will comprise of 24 days of charity pop-up performances, and is supported by Christchurch Town Council and BCP Council, and sponsorship from local businesses. Rotarian Janet Banks, Chair of the CLAC organising group, said: “The idea for a Living Advent Calendar originated in Stockholm, with the first being held in 2005.

The Rotary Clubs of Christchurch, Bournemouth Eastcliff, Parkstone, and Bournemouth North have all contributed towards the hospital’s appeal for a ‘Walkerbot’ machine. The computer-controlled equipment for the Physiotherapy Dept. will help stroke victims and those suffering from neurological conditions to learn to walk again.
Michael Turvey is the first Honorary Freeman of Christchurch Town Council THE former chief executive and town clerk of Christchurch Borough Council said he was “stunned” and “speechless” when told about being made a Freeman. Michael Turvey, who served in the two roles for 15 years before retiring in 2010, received the honour at a town council meeting last week. Mr Turvey has remained heavily involved in Christchurch in recent years. He received praise from all around the world after news of his Freeman status spread. Speaking to council members on Monday, January 18, Mr Turvey said: “I was stunned, and speechless, when I received the phone call to say that my name had been put forward to be the first Honorary Freeman of Christchurch Town Council.
