Christchurch Rotary Club announce plans for festive charity performances

PLANS ARE well underway for Christchurch’s festive Living Advent Calendar event in December 2021 – an event which had to be postponed from last year owing to the Covid-19 pandemic. The Rotary Club of Christchurch have been busy organising this year’s free event which celebrates the advent season as well as raising money for local charities. The occasion will comprise of 24 days of charity pop-up performances, and is supported by Christchurch Town Council and BCP Council, and sponsorship from local businesses. Rotarian Janet Banks, Chair of the CLAC organising group, said: “The idea for a Living Advent Calendar originated in Stockholm, with the first being held in 2005.

A teacher has penned a letter to the education secretary asking them to help schools access outdoor learning programmes. Sian Riddell, who teaches a class at Balderstone St Leonard s Church of England Primary School, has written a letter to Gavin Williamson praising a programme she has taken part in offered by Learning through Landscapes (LtL). The village-based school of 120 pupils ran a biodiversity project - or the ‘one with the bugs and animals’, as the class called it. It was hosted by LfL and Sian has said the school is lucky to boast a generously sized outside area. The project, led by instructor Gina, saw the children planting bulbs and plants which have started growing and putting in a wormery and bird-boxes.
