Written By: Terry McCollough | × This truck belonged to Silas Hall s Transfer Line just after World War I. It was used for hauling freight from the NP (Northern Pacific Railroad) depot to stores around town as well as for other kinds of moving. The picture was taken in front of the railroad freight office. Before the truck, Silas Hal used teams of horses and wagons which he kept at 415 Main (now Washington Street). Cold snap may affect some energy bills for South Dakotans Miranda Paige © Provided by Sioux Falls(Mitchell) KSFY While we re now enjoying some warm temperatures, it s possible you may still feel some effects from the cold temperatures last week that caused an energy crisis. CROOKS, S.D. (Dakota News Now) -Millions of people are still dealing with the fallout from last week’s winter storm. Some Texans are seeing electric bills skyrocket after the energy crisis. That’s prompting some South Dakotans to wonder if they’ll see any changes to their energy bills. If you use more electricity than you normally do that can cause your bill to go up. But if you’re an Electric Power Cooperative Consumer in South Dakota with East River or Basin you won’t be seeing increases like some Texans are as the rate of your bill will remain the same.

Photo: WNAX Electric utilities that were hit with rolling blackouts in late February are joining in a study to figure out what happened and how to avoid it in the future. Chris Studer with East River Electric says there are national and regional reviews underway… Studer says there is reserve power available all across the fourteen state Southwest Power Pool, and even that wasn’t enough…. Studer says it is very expensive to overbuild the electric generation system….. The rolling blackouts were caused by record cold temperatures stretching from Canada to Texas for more than a week late last month.
