This truck belonged to Silas Hall s Transfer Line just after World War I. It was used for hauling freight from the NP (Northern Pacific Railroad) depot to stores around town as well as for other kinds of moving. The picture was taken in front of the railroad freight office. Before the truck, Silas Hal used teams of horses and wagons which he kept at 415 Main (now Washington Street). Chris Bjorklund, who played basketball for Brainerd, has finished his career at Cal Poly as their all-time leading scorer with 2,006 points. The 6-8, 235-pound Bjorklund averaged 18.1 points and 5.6 rebounds. As a grad from a small Div. I school he says the NBA is unlikely, but he d like to take a shot at playing pro ball in Europe.
30 years ago (1991)
Sheriff Dick Ross said that an elderly couple from Avon fell through the ice on Jail Lake near Pine River. The man, 76, is in intensive care, but the wife, 67, was treated and released. They were returning to shore from fishing when they fell through ice into water over their heads. Ross warned people to stay off lake ice.
