A group post-secondary education institutes is conducting a northern health care labour market survey to determine where there are shortages in allied health professionals in the hopes of addressing those needs with training programs and other initiatives.
UNBC, Northern Health, the College of New Caledonia, Northern Lights College and Northwest Community College are taking part in the project funded by Human Resource and Skills Development Canada.
“We’re trying to look at people’s opinion of what is needed,” project coordinator Chris Leischner said. “We know that in the north we have some very unique characteristics and very unique needs. We’ve looked at 12 key areas and that list keeps growing.”
