CONOR BENN sent out an old-fashioned message during a night when legitimacy was a backdrop to the action.
Benn left Samuel Vargas helpless and hopeless on the ropes, forcing the referee, Michael Alexander, to intervene after just 80 seconds of the first round. It was the end nobody predicted, not even the gushing patriots in the Benn business.
Vargas was separated from his senses, trying to fight, looking for an answer and trying not to walk like a drunk. He had no complaints about the stoppage and was a short hook away from being dropped for more than the global rites of 10.

The Wayne County Board met last night and heard an update from County Highway Engineer Dennis Seidel about possible safety measures at the intersection of Enterprise Road and Route 161. He said he has met with various entities about possibilities, including implementing a four-way stop, but he doesn’t want to create another problem while attempting to fix another, as sight distance is key in placing stop signs. He anticipates more information in the next week. At the conclusion of the meeting, Royce Carter announced he would resign from the board, effective immediately, as he has moved out of the area. He thanked fellow board members, office holders, and voters for their trust and cooperation over the years, and a reception was held in his honor.
Third defendant in 2017 Picantes Restaurant robbery found guilty
A 29-year-old man faces up to life in prison after he was convicted by a jury for his role in the armed robbery of a Central Lubbock restaurant four years ago.
Jurors in the 364th District Court deliberated for two and 1/2 hours before returning with their verdict finding 29-year-old Phillip Velazquez guilty as charged of aggravated robbery for his role in the Jan. 27, 2017, armed robbery at Picantes restaurant in the 3800 block of 34th Street.
Velazquez is the final defendant to be convicted in the robbery. His brother, Joseph Gonzalez, was sentenced in 2019 to 60 years in prison for his role in the robbery. Damian Villarreal, who testified against Gonzalez, pleaded guilty in September in exchange for a 30-year prison sentence.

HENRICO COUNTY, Va. Virginia s vaccine coordinator, Dr. Danny Avula, received his COVID-19 vaccine Thursday morning at the mass vaccination clinic at Richmond Raceway in Henrico County.
Avula was given the single-dose Johnson & Johnson shot, which he said he had planned to get to encourage folks who may have been hesitant about the newly approved vaccine. But he said hesitancy about the J&J vaccine has not been an issue in Virginia.
