Road issue delays quarry decision - Mount Desert Islander

It had been expected that on Monday, nearly seven years after Harold MacQuinn, Inc. applied for a license to resume quarrying at a site in the village of Hall Quarry, the Planning Board would make a decision. But that didn’t happen. The quarry is located at the end of dirt lane off Crane Road. A question of whether that road meets the town’s road standards arose at Monday’s meeting.

Updated 4/28/2021 7:43 PM Former Elgin Police Chief Charles Gruber is remembered as being ahead of his time in implementing the community policing approach that now is front and center in law enforcement. Gruber, who also was police chief in South Barrington, died Monday. He was 74. He spent more than four decades in law enforcement, starting as an officer in Addison after serving in the Marine Corps from 1964 to 1968. In 1976, he moved to Quincy to become the youngest police chief in the state. He served as Shreveport, Louisiana s chief from 1987 to 1990, returning to Illinois to take over as Elgin s chief in 1990, where he stayed until retiring in 1998. In 1999, he took his final job as a chief, working in South Barrington until 2008.

Emergency operation as nine-year-old falls while out near quarry A CHILD had to be rescued after they slipped and fell while out walking. The Rossendale and Pendle Mountain Rescue Team were called to Jamestone Quarry, off the Grane Road, shortly before 3.30pm on Sunday. Originally, calls had been made to the ambulance service, who in turn called the MRT due to the location of the incident. A spokesman said: “The second call out of the day was received from the North West Ambulance Service (NWAS) shortly before 15:30, to assist with a nine year old who had slipped and injured themselves whilst out walking near Jamestone Quarry, off of Grane Road.
