A contractor for Tri-State Generation and Transmission Association was admitted to The Memorial Hospital in Craig Tuesday after what company officials are calling an “incident,” but there were no disruptions to power as a result.
Mark Stutz, spokesman for Tri-State, would not release details but said the contractor was transported to the hospital after the incident.
The incident does not affect power generation at the plant. The plant as of Wednesday evening had one unit in a planning outage and two units operating. The plant has resources at Craig’s other two units and elsewhere to serve the 42 members in four states.
In an effort to meet part of its Responsible Energy Plan, Tri-State Generation and Transmission Association, Inc. reached a settlement of its wholesale rate and contract filings made with the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission on Friday.
The Tri-State Board of Directors, which includes a representative from each of the power supply cooperative’s utility members, approved the proposed settlement of its wholesale rate and contract filings with FERC. Under the terms of the settlement, which requires FERC approval, Tri-State says it will immediately reduce its wholesale power rates 2%, followed by another 2% wholesale rate reduction in 2022.
This means people should see a 2% reduction on their bills moving forward.

For more than a year, Colorado Office of Just Transition Director Wade Buchanan has been a one-man show running the new state office that aims to help communities and workers move away from coal.
After pandemic-related disruptions to state hiring, Buchanan now has help on the way with approval to add employees by summer to oversee the implementation of the ambitious Colorado Just Transition Action Plan finalized on Dec. 31, 2020. Buchanan hopes to be able to expand his office to some five employees throughout this year.

STEAMBOAT SPRINGS Steamboat Springs City Council voted unanimously at its regular meeting Tuesday to use $630,157 from the city’s reserves to match a grant from the Colorado Department of Local Affairs for the installation of solar panels on the city’s wastewater treatment facility.
While council members have preached caution when using funds from the city’s reserves after a drop in sales tax collections in 2020 due to COVID-19, Steamboat Finance Director Kim Weber told council the investment will eventually save the city money in the long term. The money will also come specifically from the fleet fund, an internal service fund used to replace and maintain city fleet, which has $5.1 million in unappropriated reserves.
