Moffat County Sheriff KC Hume said Wednesday just before 5 p.m. that 100 firefighters had been assigned to the fire that broke out Tuesday afternoon on Elk Ridge Mining and Reclamation property southwest of Craig along Highway 13. Hume reported no injuries to fire personnel or others. County Road 51 remained temporarily closed early Wednesday evening due to the fire, which is burning south of Highway 13, west of County Road 51 and south of County Road 32, per the MCSO. Hume said there was good reason to expect County Road 51 would be reopened later Wednesday evening, once the operational period ended.

To tell you the truth, I would not be writing this letter if it were not for the emergency medical services (EMS) out of Memorial Regional Hospital. In 2016, I felt hopeless and believed that everyone would be better off without me. I had fallen through the cracks of a broken mental health care system and didn’t know what else to do, so I tried to take my own life. A friend came to check on me and immediately called emergency services. They were able to arrive in time and saved my life. I owe everything to the EMS personnel, and I’m grateful they were there in my darkest hour. I know my experience with them is not unique. After my recovery, I served alongside EMS in the hospital as a safety advocate, working twelve hour shifts and helping support patients who were facing mental health crises. STEAMBOAT SPRINGS A crew of West Routt Fire Protection District firefighters were injured in an engine rollover Saturday evening. The crash occurred as the crew was returning to the station after extinguishing a structure fire at Canyon Valley Ranch. The engine they were traveling in went off the edge of Valley Drive, which was steep and icy. The vehicle rolled several times and came to rest approximately 150 to 200 feet down a steep embankment.
