Retiring Grenada Elementary School teacher made a mark on her students

Retiring Grenada Elementary School teacher made a mark on her students Siskiyou Daily News After teaching at Grenada Elementary School for 25 years, Naomi Corbin will retire at the end of this school year. “I love it when you work with students and they start to understand what you are teaching them,” said Corbin, who was a Mount Shasta High School graduate and taught preschool for 10 years before getting her teaching credentials and starting at GES. “I feel like I can be a difference and can help have a solid learning foundation. I want to show them they are capable. I try to make things interesting and understandable and try to get that passion for learning instilled in them.”

Kindness, sharp eyes help locate Grenada Elementary custodian's missing ear buds

Kindness, sharp eyes help locate Grenada Elementary custodian s missing ear buds Siskiyou Daily News Students at Grenada Elementary School banded together over Kindness Week  earlier this month to help a staff member locate his missing ear buds. Gary Alford, who does maintenance and custodial work at the school and is also a bus driver, was in the field area at the school taking his lunch break on Feb. 11 when he noticed his ear bud-style headphones were missing. The word quickly spread, and classes were allowed to help in the search.  Different classes continued the search Thursday and Friday to no avail. With no school over the weekend and on Monday due to the Presidents Day holiday, the search for the earbuds continued in earnest on Tuesday.

Health Center donates portable sanitization stations to local schools

Siskiyou Daily News Kids will have a place to quickly ensure their hands are clean at Grenada Elementary School after Shasta Cascade Health Centers donated a sanitation station. They are also supplying stations to Mt. Shasta Elementary and McCloud Elementary schools. Shasta Cascade is a non-profit health provider that has served the local community since 2000. They have three clinics in McCloud, Dunsmuir, and Mount Shasta, as well as a dental center in McCloud.   “This donation will help so much, especially in this time of COVID-19,” said fourth grade teacher Sabrina Ellin, who helped with the project. “We have many systems and procedures in place for washing and sanitizing hands to keep our campus as clean and safe as possible. The neat thing about this sanitation station is that it is very light and portable.”

Cafeteria food brings 'a little bit of normalcy' to Grenada students during pandemic

Cafeteria food brings a little bit of normalcy to Grenada students during pandemic Siskiyou Daily News Comfort food takes on a whole new meaning for students during the pandemic. Keri Patti, Grenada Elementary School s food service director, said she is proud to give her students “a little bit of normalcy during this crazy time.”  While many schools are teaching students online, Grenada Elementary has more than 200 kids on campus, from transitional kindergarten up to eighth grade.  Through all of challenges COVID-19 brings, school meals must go on for both breakfast and lunch. The two-person crew at Grenada, sisters Patti and Barb Richards, are doing what they can to continue providing comforting and nourishing food to the students each day.
