The Junction City Police Department conducted a tabletop simulation, in conjunction with other first responders and USD 475, in preparation for a hypothetical active shooter situation in one of the district’s schools.
Participating members were comprised of the Junction City Police Department, USD 475 School District, Geary County Sheriff’s Office, Junction City Fire Department, Geary County Emergency Management, and Grandview Plaza Police Department.

Geary County officials say one person was hospitalized following a three-vehicle wreck early Monday morning.
The crash was reported around 11:30 a.m. near the intersection of US 77 and K57 highways.
According to the Geary County Sheriff’s Office, a Ford Escape, driven by Nam Nguyen of Junction City was north on US 77 when he entered the intersection and collided with a Dodge Ram pickup driven by Phillip Boler, also of Junction City. The collision caused Nguyen’s car to collide with a Jeep Wrangler, driven by Tyler Merkle of Fort Riley. Merkle was stopped in a turn lane on US 77.
A Topeka man arrested over the weekend in Geary County is charged in connection to past sex crimes in Dickinson County.
According to the Geary County Sheriff’s Office, 20-year-old Christopher Hyde was arrested Sunday afternoon on I-70, about two miles east of Junction City. Hyde is charged with rape, aggravated criminal sodomy, aggravated indecent liberties, electronic solicitation and aggravated indecent solicitation of a child.
Online court records allege the incidents are alleged from July 2019 involving a 14-year-old victim.
Hyde was booked into the Geary County Jail but released later in the day on bond.
No further details have been released.
