Nonprofit fair seeks to inform community of local area opportunities

Several nonprofit organizations in Graham provide services and opportunities for those in the community and making the community aware of those services and how to utilize them is the goal of the Graham Non-Profit Community Fair Saturday. The event will be hosted by Affirming Texas Families Services and the Graham Crisis Center from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, May 15, in the Graham Food Pantry parking lot at 601 Indiana St. in Graham. Courtney Shifflett with ATFS said the event was a way to make the community more aware of the opportunities available to them here locally. “We wanted to have an event where all of the resources from your nonprofits, to your civic clubs, to your things like WIC (Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children) and SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program), anything that can help people out, we wanted kind of a big event for people to kind of know what’s here because so many people don’t even realize what’s availa

Graham Area Crisis Center opening thrift store on Indiana St

The Graham Crisis Center has gone through a few changes with a new leadership presence both on the board and overseeing operations, but soon the center itself on Indiana St. will be undergoing changes as a thrift store becomes open to the public and to clients who utilize the center’s services. The Graham Crisis Center is an umbrella organization which contains the women’s shelter, food pantry and clothes closet on 601 Indiana St. in Graham. The organization provides services, such as providing food, clothes and monetary assistance for those in the community who have a need. Board member and thrift store project manager Lydia Schupbach said the idea for the thrift store was already in the community and when she came onto the board she wondered why not make it at the Graham Crisis Center. The group is looking at mid-February to open the thrift store and hoping they will not have to push back the opening date.

Area medical staff collect, donate clothing, personal items to Graham Crisis Center

Graham Regional Medical Center, Young County Family Clinic and Wellness Center donated unopened socks, underwear, sports bras, T-Shirts and pajamas last Wednesday to the Graham Crisis Center which were collected by staff and the community. The campaign by the group was called “Dare to Say ‘Underwear’” and donated items were dropped off at the Graham Regional Medical Center and Young County Family Clinic and Wellness Center lobbies following Thanksgiving and into December. The group collected pairs for all ages and in total received 303 pairs of underwear, 572 socks, 45 T-Shirts, 24 pajamas, 18 sports bras and five hats for a total of 967 donated items. GRMC HR Director Terri Busey said she was surprised by how much the community gave during the event.
