Board to drop more than $125k on school locks, keys
Cleveland County Schools will spend just under $129,000 to replace every lock and key on doors inside of Kings Mountain High School.
The project was approved on Monday by the county Board of Education. The board voted unanimously to approve the project.
The work will be done by Seven Oaks Doors & Hardware, Inc and will consist of installing hundreds of Dorma-branded locks throughout the school and keys for each of those locks.
According to board chair Robert Queen the rekey project is the latest in a district-wide effort to update locks and keys at all schools.

A new program in memory of a fallen Mount Holly Police officer will help build bridges between officers and civilians for years to come.
Micha Autry – a nurse at Novant Health Huntersville Medical Center – was grieving with her fellow Mount Holly residents following the shooting death of Officer Tyler Herndon in December 2020 when she read about large-scale adopt-an-officer programs across the U.S.
Generally the programs connect law enforcement officers and first responders to families, who will support and thank their officer for their service with gifts cards, money and other gifts.
Autry – the mother of a firefighter and cousin of a police officer – thought a smaller, localized program could benefit the Mount Holly area.
Chase Hullender doesn’t recall a defining moment when meeting Tyler Herndon. For as long as he can remember, Herndon was his best friend.
“We grew up in church together. We went to the same elementary school, intermediate school, middle school and high school. Tyler was probably the one constant in my life,” Hullender said.
Herndon, a Kings Mountain native who most recently lived in Belmont, grew up going to Bethlehem Baptist Church in Kings Mountain, where Herndon will be buried in the church cemetery Tuesday.
Herndon, Hullender, Jeremiah Early, C.J. Warren and several of Herndon’s other closest friends played soccer together at Kings Mountain High School. During those years, Herndon and Hullender attended First Baptist Church in Kings Mountain, where Herndon’s funeral will be held Tuesday.
