€3 6m for Galway under transitional LEADER funding

Galway Bay FM 9 April 2021 print Galway Bay fm newsroom – €3.6m has been allocated to Galway under a new transitional LEADER programme for 2021-2022. LEADER funding supports locally-led development in rural areas, with the aim of revitalising local communities and ensuring sustainable growth. It’s implemented locally by Forum Connemara and Galway Rural Development. Of the latest €70m transitional fund announced by Minister Heather Humphries, €2.26 will go to Galway East, while a further €1.34m will go to Galway West.

Chocolate firm s success may lead to 10 new jobs

Grá Chocolates, a Co Galway-based chocolate manufacturer, is planning to move into a new 741 sq m factory following the business’s success since launching last year. Gráinne Mullins, who founded the business during the first Covid-19 lockdown, had based the company at her parents’ home in a 10 sq m space. She is hoping to receive support through Leader from Galway Rural Development to help her with the move. “We found a perfect spot in rural Galway, keeping with our theme of getting local and supporting the rural community in Ireland,” she said. “Up until now, I have been based from my parents’ home. They have been so patient, and I think it is time we took the next step.”

Lough Derg lakeside viewing points secure funding March 17, 2021 NEWS viewing and discovery points are to be developed around Lough Derg, thanks to a partnership between agencies in three counties. Clare Local Development Company (CLDC), Galway Rural Development (GRD) and North Tipperary Development Company (NTDC) have come together to approve further project funding toward the development of the lakeside amenities. The funding has been provided through the LEADER grant programme, and this is the second such project with these partners on Lough Derg in recent years. “The tourism sector has been one of those worst hit by the pandemic due to the collapse of inbound travel and the restrictions on internal movement,” said Doirin Graham, CEO of Clare Local Development. “It’s all the more important we support it to bounce back quickly”.

Galway Rural Development and Forum Connemara welcomes increase in allocation for LEADER projects across the county

Galway Bay FM 13 March 2021 print Galway Bay FM Newsroom – Galway Rural Development and Forum Connemara have welcomed the announcement of an increase in allocation for LEADER Projects across the country over the next two years. This follows the news that the national LEADER allocation will increase by €50m, following EU support for the Programme. LEADER is a rural development programme co-funded by the EU which operates a locally-led, bottom-up, approach to meeting the needs of local communities and businesses. It was also announced yesterday by the government that they would submit an amendment to the European Commission to extend the 2014-2020 Rural Development Programme, under which LEADER is funded, out to the end of 2022 as part of the EU co-funded Rural Development Programme.
