Rabun s state title quest ends with 41-17 loss to Calla

HOGANSVILLE Callaway held the state’s highest-scoring offense in any classification to just 10 points en route to a 41-17 blowout over No. 2 Rabun County Friday night at Callaway Stadium. The Wildcats’ march to Georgia State Stadium came to an end at the hands of Class 2A’s top defense (13 ppg, 10 ppg in playoffs) in a battle that the Cavaliers imposed their will.   Rabun’s best highlight of the semifinal matchup came in the second quarter when Gunner Stockton connected with Adriel Clark on a 20-yard touchdown pass with 4:02 left in the first half. The catch was Clark’s 28th of the season giving him the Georgia state reception record in a single season.

(WTVM) - Charlie Dixon ran for three touchdowns, while Demetrius Coleman had a TD pass and a TD run of his own as the No. 8 Callaway Cavaliers beat the No. 2 Rabun County Wildcats 41-17 on Friday night in the GHSA Class 2A state semifinals in a game played at Callaway Stadium in LaGrange. The Cavaliers took command of the game from the get-go. Jalin Shephard picked off a Gunner Stockton pass in the first quarter and returned it 70 yards for the opening touchdown. Dixon added a 2-yard score to make it 14-0 after one quarter.

AccessWDUN has three teams from its coverage area still playing for championships. We will look at the Class 2A bracket today, which houses Rabun County. The Wildcats (12-1) are into just their second-ever Final 4 in program history but know how to win at this level having advanced to the finals in 2017 in their only other attempt. They will take on Callaway in Hogansville with a shot at their second championship game appearance. Jefferson County will travel to Fitzgerald in the other Class 2A semifinal. Fitzgerald knocked off Jefferson County earlier in the season, 14-12, in a non-region matchup in Week 2.

The Cavaliers are making their 15th straight playoff appearance, and 5th consecutive appearance in the state quarterfinals. Now they’re ready for another big time challenge, as they get ready to take on the Thomasville Bulldogs. Last week, they showed what they’re made of with a big time fourth quarter surge against fourth-Lovett. And that means a quarterfinal showdown against No. 3 Thomasville.
