Photo: Elia Saikaly/File Gilgit Baltistan Chief Minister Khalid Khurshid Khan on Tuesday announced that Rs3 million will be paid to the widow of mountaineer Mohammad Ali Sadpara, who was last week declared dead after he went missing on the K2 mountain. Additionally, he said that mountaineer Sajid Ali Sadpara the son of Mohammad will be trained according to international standards, after which he will be able to provide training to aspiring climbers in the Mohammad Ali Sadpara Institute for Adventure Sports, Mountaineering and Rock Climbing, an institute which would be formed to honour the latter.

We are learning more about what happened at the Bottleneck directly from Ali’s son, Sajid. Of note, he said he and his father were climbing without supplemental oxygen but had a bottle in their pack for emergencies. Also, when he left the three missing climbers, they had no radio or satellite phone. He believes they summited and had an accident on the descent in the Bottleneck, but he cannot be sure.

PML-N issues white paper on ‘rigging’ in G-B polls Says matter will now be decided by the PDM PHOTO: NNI/FILE ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) on Thursday issued a white paper on the alleged rigging in the Gilgit-Baltistan (G-B) Legislative Assembly polls and warned the incumbent regime of “dire consequences” if “such practice” was adopted in the Azad Kashmir polls. “A ‘selected’ government has been imposed through undemocratic means in Gilgit-Baltistan,” PML-N Secretary General Ahsan Iqbal said while addressing a news conference in the federal capital. He was flanked by other party leaders including Khurram Dastgir, Tariq Fazal Chaudhry, Hafiz Hafeezur Rehman and Marriyum Aurangzeb.
