A DECADE ago, devastated mother Faye Axford was told her baby may not survive. The tot had spent the first eight months of his life in hospital after being diagnosed with a congenital diaphragmatic hernia at 20 weeks. He was also diagnosed with cerebral palsy, chronic lung disease and neurofibromatosis type 1 (NF1), which includes tumours on his optic nerves. But fast forward ten years on, and her son Callum Axford has taken on the difficult challenges and is now inspiring those around him with his determination to help others. The youngster now works with charities, including CDH UK, where he does news reports and podcasts to help raise awareness.
THE past year has been nothing but challenging, with many facing struggles financially, with our mental health and working from home. Nevertheless, we’ve certainly all been taught a lesson or too. Whether it’s the importance of family, the true value of our key worker heroes or how to save a few pennies. Many who may not be used to modern technology have also had to take a step into the virtual world to stay in touch with loved ones, while we’ve all been reminded of the importance of kindness.
