Callum Axford continues to defy the odds ten years on

A DECADE ago, devastated mother Faye Axford was told her baby may not survive. The tot had spent the first eight months of his life in hospital after being diagnosed with a congenital diaphragmatic hernia at 20 weeks. He was also diagnosed with cerebral palsy, chronic lung disease and neurofibromatosis type 1 (NF1), which includes tumours on his optic nerves. But fast forward ten years on, and her son Callum Axford has taken on the difficult challenges and is now inspiring those around him with his determination to help others. The youngster now works with charities, including CDH UK, where he does news reports and podcasts to help raise awareness.
