Officers found Cox dead in her Colonial Grand at Canyon Pointe apartment complex around 2:43 a.m. on March 31, after police received a 911 shoot/stab hotshot call.  Multiple callers had reported the sound of a door being kicked in and multiple shots being fired in the area. One caller stated they heard what sounded like a verbal disturbance before the shots were fired.

Austin Police Department told reporters in a news conference early Wednesday officers received calls on reports of gunshots and a disturbance around 3 a.m. at the Colonial Grand at Canyon Pointe Apartments in the 9700 block of Farm-to-Market Road 620. When officers arrived to the scene, they found a woman who had been shot within the apartment complex. She dead at the scene.
