CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCSC) - The Charleston Police Department released the name of the officer involved in a shooting with an armed man in West Ashley Wednesday morning.
The agency identified him as Senior Police Officer Christopher Malinowski, who has served with the department for eight years.
Police spokesman Charles Francis said Malinowski is on administrative leave as part of its standard procedure.
Police also released the officer’s discipline history. Those records indicate he received a compliment from a citizen praising his assistance to a stranded, elderly driver.

CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCSC) - A man who was injured during a gun battle with Charleston police officers was recently arrested for waving a gun in a restaurant, according to Police Chief Luther Reynolds.
During a Thursday afternoon press conference, police identified the suspect in Wednesday’s officer-involved shooting in West Ashley as 25-year-old George Grayson Sanner who remains hospitalized at MUSC in stable condition.
