Brian Ruhlmann had a dream. Growing up in Concord and cheering on the Boston Red Sox, he saw himself becoming the next Theo Epstein, the former Sox and Chicago Cubs general manager who brought World Series titles to both cities after decades of striking out.
His dream didn’t pan out the way he hoped. But the Concord-Carlisle Regional High School graduate may have hit a home run with his latest venture.
Ruhlmann is the owner of Craic Sauce, a hot sauce company based in Lowell he founded in 2017. Craic – pronounced “crack” – is an Irish word that means a good time or fun. That wound up being the focus of the business.

Late in the evening on Feb. 9, a Concord-Carlisle high school teacher made administrators aware of a racially insensitive incident that occurred during a class earlier in the day.
According to Principal Michael Mastrullo, a student placed an inappropriate racial image on a presentation accessible and visible to all students in that class. Our school communities at Concord Carlisle High School and Concord Public Schools remain steadfast in our zero-tolerance policy for acts of hatred, racism, discrimination, and bigotry,” he wrote on his blog. “We condemn all expressions of hate regardless of intent or the medium utilized.”
On her blog, Superintendent Laurie Hunter wrote the district has been active in its continued work in anti-racism and cultural competency.
Tuesday, February 2: Concord Public Schools, CCHS, and Ripley will be closed. The White Pond Public Forum has been postponed until Feb. 9 at 6 p.m. due to the storm and the possibility of power outages. According to Fire Chief Tom Judge, the town's lone emergency shelter, the Harvey Wheeler Community Center, will be available if needed.

Concord held its annual Town Caucus in a chilly setting Jan. 25 - the parking lot of the Harvey Wheeler Community Center to adhere to COVID safety protocols.
Those in attendance stayed in their cars and turned their radio dials to 100.1 FM to hear Moderator Mike Lawson and those nominating residents for open seats. Votes were recorded via the flickering of headlights.
Select Board
Three residents were nominated for the two open Select Board seats, with two familiar names.
Mark Martinez of Alford Circle nominated Henry Dane, a more than 50-year resident of Concord who ran for Select Board in 2020.

The vaccination clinic at Concord-Carlisle Regional High School was activated from Jan. 15-17, assisting first responders from six towns in getting the COVID-19 vaccine.
Overall, 420 people – firefighters, police officers, EMS personnel, school nurses, council on aging directors and social work staff from Concord, Carlisle, Bedford, Lincoln, Maynard and Sudbury received the first shot of the Moderna vaccine.
Concord Health Director Susan Rask told the Board of Health on Jan. 20 it was successful.
“It really was our trial run to see if we could make it work,” Rask said. “We had a few little hiccups but we worked them through and we got some ideas for how to make it more efficient next time. I feel like it was a success and I feel good about it.”
