The Corbin City Commission voted unanimously to approve the lease of a new city garbage truck through Enterprise Fleet Management at a Feb. 16 special called meeting.
Public Works Director Gary Kelly had requested a new garbage truck during the commission’s Dec. 21 meeting.
“We were going to bid it out, but it would take probably 10 months to find a truck and build it to our specs,” said Marlon Sams, Corbin City Manager. “Enterprise Fleet worked with another company that had some garbage trucks and they just came in and fixed up the truck suited to our needs.”
Enterprise Fleet Management is the same group the city uses for police cars.

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas â A high speed chase involving local law enforcement ended, and the driver was caught, after he crashed his vehicle and ran away on foot.
The chase started around 11 a.m. Tuesday around Corbin Town Homes. It continued through La Armada, then went from Ayers, before it ended on the corner of Gollihar Rd. and Nicholson St. According to witnesses, the suspect crashed into a fence and fled on foot.
According to law enforcement, the officers were trying to conduct a traffic stop because the vehicle had an expired registration sticker when the suspect took officers on a high speed chase of over 90mph speeds. One officer was involved in an accident due to the pursuit, but nobody was injured.

Last week, the Corbin City Commission approved a motion that gets the wheels rolling on a project that brings a mental health specialist onboard the Corbin City Police Department. Via this column, I would like to tip my cap to not only Corbin City officials, but to Marcy Rein and her staff at the Whitley County Health Department for getting this done, as well.
Rein said the project was in response to drug users and those with mental health issues cycling through our local judicial systems. And while itâs not certain this project and installing a mental health specialist into the police force will make a huge impact on interrupting that cycle, I am optimistic that it might. After all, it has worked in other communities.
