As more people brave the outdoors amid the pandemic, accidents and open water drownings are on the rise in Texas. With the risk of catching COVID-19 outdoors significantly less than being inside, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, more Texans are simply spending time in nature and on the water.

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas â The Coastal Bend Blood Center is adding a little fun to their donation sites this summer with some friendly competition. Voting for the Coastal Bend Blood Centerâs Boots and Badges drive begins Sunday. Donors are faced with the difficult decision of casting a vote for the local fire or police departments.
âThereâs times when we have the fire department and the police department in here at the same time, so when other donors are on the bus and theyâre not part of it⦠sometimes theyâre like I donât know which one to choose,â says Jennifer Martinez, a donor coordinator.
