TAFT, Texas â A local student is at the top of his class and intends to go to college after a tough loss for him and his family.
Michael Vara is a senior, first in his class at Taft High School, and expects to graduate as Valedictorian.
Being top of his class is only scratching the surface. He plans to go to Texas A&M Kingsville to study music on a scholarship after advancing to the UIL state level for four years in a row as a percussionist. He also loves to sing Country music.

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas â An infant child that was found unconscious Monday afternoon at a southside apartment complex was resuscitated through the use of CPR by paramedics.
Although experts were able to render much-needed aid, one first-responder is hoping that some of those life-saving measures can be taught to the public.
âYou donât know when a loved one or a child in that instance are put in a situation â and we have to be ready for that,â said Rey Rabagos, program director and co-owner at Texas EMS Academy.

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas â The Coast Guard is searching for the owner of a boat after they found it drifting in Nueces Bay on Saturday.
The unoccupied green Jon boat was found with an ice chest and food floating about 300 feet away from where it was found.
The Coast Guard Sector/Air Station Corpus Christi, Coast Guard Station Port Aransas, Corpus Christi Fire Department, and Good Samaritan boats are searching for the owner of the boat.

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas â Corpus Christi firefighters put out a grass fire Wednesday morning. The fire started between Navigation Blvd. and Flato Rd. in Corpus Christi near the West Oso High School.
According to Nueces County ESD 2 Fire Chief Dale Scott, the fire covered a huge area and did some damage to a business. Several propane tanks and other heavy machinery at a business were damaged. It took fire crews several hours to get the fire under control.
Generator sparks fire at Greenwood and Tarlton
The Corpus Christi Fire Department is working to control a structure fire at Greenwood Drive and Tarlton Street.

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas â Corpus Christi Fire Department officials said a fire was sparked late Wednesday morning when several people were working with a generator at Greenwood Drive and Tarlton Street.
The fire got out of control and destroyed a detached shed and damaged a home after flames spread there.
One man suffered minor burns, but refused medical treatment.
Although fire department officials know the cause of the fire, they have a fire investigator at the scene.
